Mirembe is 8 years old and lives in the country of Uganda near the town of Kakiri. She is the youngest of four children living on their own, none of whom are currently in school. Her mother died five years ago, and her father was recently imprisoned for 16 years for abusing her older sisters. Despite these circumstances, Mirembe has dreams of being a lawyer one day. With no parental support, getting an education is perhaps her best change of having a life free from exploitation. (Ref. No. FN-0006)
